Over the course of my career as a professional artist I have worked in several different spaces which I referred to as studios. Most of those "studios" were nothing more than small makeshift spaces in the corner of a room where I could set up my easel. In some cases I literally could not turn around in my "studio" without knocking something over. Finally, in 2005, Susan and I purchased a home with a 500 square foot, 2 car garage. The garage did not last long! A week after we moved in I immediately set about enclosing the garage and turning it into a "real" artist's studio.
I designed my studio based on my needs and the lessons I have learned over the past 15 years. My first objective was to have the studio divided into 3 different areas: 1) the creative area; 2) the business area; 3) the library and research area. |
