The Belle Of Bassingbourn is a limited edition print depicting the moment on May 17, 1943 as the ground crews of the 91st stand on the field of Bassingbourn watching the bombers return from their mission. They have particularly been anticipating the return of one bomber, the Memphis Belle, returning from her 25th and final mission. Upon her return Capt. Morgan makes his victory pass over the airfield, coming in so low that he seems to cut the grass. As he passes the control tower he pulls the Belle up, bringing her almost directly over the heads of the ground crews. I worked closely with Col. Morgan during its creation to ensure accuracy.
Printed on 100# acid free stock, the edition consists of 500 prints and 50 Artist Proofs. Each print is individually signed and numbered by Russell Smith and countersigned by the pilot of the Memphis Belle, Col. Robert Morgan (Ret.), and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
