I had the opportunity to visit Venice during a month long tour of Italy in college. I fell in love with the city from the very start. Although I only spent two days there, I could have spent a week exploring its back alleys. I painted Strada Veneziana from a photograph I took while eatimg lunch along a canal. The title is Italian for "Venetian Street", and describes the scene as you look down the waterway and out to the Grand Canal. The architecture of Venice is unique in that it is a beautiful mix of western and Byzantine styles.
